Irwin 9/32″ x 4-1/4″ Cobalt HSS 135 Degree Drill Bit (63118)

The Irwin 9/32″ x 4-1/4″ Cobalt HSS 135 Degree Drill Bit (63118) is a specialized tool engineered for superior performance in demanding metalworking applications. Its key feature is the M-35 cobalt high-speed steel construction, which provides exceptional heat and abrasion resistance, significantly extending the bit’s life when drilling into tough materials like stainless steel, hardened steel, and titanium. The 135-degree split point tip is another critical feature, as it allows the bit to start drilling instantly without “walking” and reduces the need for high feed pressure. This ensures cleaner, more accurate holes from the first contact. The heavy-duty web construction further enhances the bit’s strength and durability, preventing breakage under high stress. The gold oxide finish reduces friction and heat buildup, contributing to a smoother drilling process and a longer-lasting tool.KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS: Constructed from M-35 cobalt high-speed steel for excellent heat and abrasion resistance. 135-degree split point starts drilling on contact and reduces walking and feed pressure. Heavy-duty web design enhances durability and minimizes breakage risk under load. Gold oxide finish reduces friction and heat, extending tool life. Engineered for precision and clean drilling in tough materials like stainless and hardened steel.SPECIFICATIONS: Product Name: Irwin 9/32″ x 4-1/4″ Cobalt HSS 135 Degree Drill Bit Model Number: 63118 Diameter: 9/32 inches Overall Length: 4-1/4 inches Flute Length: 2-15/16 inches Shank Diameter: 9/32 inches Material: M-35 (5% Cobalt) High-Speed Steel Point Angle: 135-degree split point Cutting Direction: Right-hand Finish: Gold OxideHOW TO USE: Safety First: Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses and gloves, before you begin. Secure the Workpiece: Clamp the material you are drilling into firmly to a workbench or vice. This prevents the material from moving and ensures a clean, safe cut. Insert the Bit: Select the correct size bit and securely insert it into the chuck of your drill. Ensure the chuck is tightened to prevent the bit from slipping during operation. Mark the Spot: Use a center punch or marker to clearly mark the exact spot where you intend to drill. While the 135-degree split point reduces walking, a pilot mark can aid in initial alignment. Begin Drilling: Start the drill at a low to moderate speed and apply steady, consistent pressure. The bits design allows it to penetrate the material quickly, so avoid excessive force. Manage Chips: For deep holes, periodically pull the bit out of the hole to clear out chips. This prevents the flutes from clogging and reduces heat buildup. Finish: Once you have drilled through the material, slowly withdraw the bit while the drill is still spinning to prevent it from snagging.BENEFITS OF USING IRWIN 9/32″ X 4-1/4″ COBALT HSS 135 DEGREE DRILL BIT (63118): Exceptional Durability: M-35 cobalt steel offers superior resistance to heat and wear. Accurate Starts: 135-degree split point tip enables immediate engagement without a pilot hole. Efficient Chip Removal: Optimized flute design prevents clogging and reduces heat buildup. Professional Performance: Built for consistent results on tough metals and alloys. Extended Tool Life: Durable build and surface treatment minimize replacement frequency.FEATURES: Enhanced Chip Evacuation: The specific flute geometry is designed for rapid and efficient chip ejection, which keeps the cutting area clear and prevents clogging. Low Torque Requirement: Shorter cutting lips on the bit’s tip require less torque to cut through high-tensile-strength materials, reducing strain on both the bit and your drilling equipment. M-35 Cobalt Material: The inclusion of 5% cobalt in the HSS blend provides a metallurgical advantage, increasing the tool’s hardness and its ability to withstand high temperatures. Reduced Feed Pressure: The 135-degree split point design minimizes the force needed to start drilling, leading to a smoother and more controlled user experience. Industrial-Grade Construction: The heavy-duty web design provides added structural integrity, making the bit less prone to bending or breaking under professional use. Gold Oxide Surface Treatment: This finish acts as a lubricant, reducing friction and heat during the drilling process while also protecting the bit from corrosion.
